I start before the school year. Phone calls of introduction. Everyone has my cell number. Good and bad phone calls. If you have to make a bad call make sure to follow up the next day and say something positive. Weekly texts about upcoming events. Build relationships with students AND parents. I also do a meet and greet outside of what the school offers. I attend ball games and birthday parties if invited. I try and build a family feel in my classroom. A safe space for all.

Listen to them, showing compassion, and kindness. Then again most say I’m more of a soft soul. I can be firm and strict but I don’t see a need to demand respect but earn each other’s respect through example which will turn into meaningful relationships with student. I rather be the teacher they chose to come to at lunch for a safe heaven than a teacher that makes them feel unwanted.

This is real advice from real teachersEvery teacher knows that there is an essential purpose in forming strong relationships with students, and there is many ways to do so. However, it is common to not know the best way to approach this, or sometimes we may not even know where to start. |
